Are You Listening to the Right Voice?
We live in a world full of noise. Opinions. Headlines. Social media. Expectations. Fear. Every day, countless voices compete for our attention and influence our decisions. Yet in the middle of the noise, Jesus offers a powerful promise:
“My sheep hear My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)
The Voices That Shape Our Lives
Whether we realize it or not, something is always influencing us. Fear tells us to play it safe. Culture tells us to follow the crowd. Past wounds tell us to protect ourselves. But God’s voice leads differently. He speaks with truth, wisdom, peace, and love.
The challenge is learning to distinguish His voice from all the others
Hearing God Is a Relationship
Many people think hearing God requires a dramatic spiritual experience. But more often, hearing God grows through daily relationship.
Just as you recognize the voice of someone you know well, spiritual discernment develops through consistent time with God.
The closer we walk with Him, the more familiar His voice becomes.
Living led by the Shepherd means allowing God’s voice to shape the way we think, decide, and live.
Living Led by the Shepherd
Following Jesus is not only about major life decisions. It’s about learning to trust Him in everyday moments.
- Choosing prayer before panic.
- Seeking wisdom before reacting.
- Following truth instead of fear.
Living led by the Shepherd means allowing God’s voice to shape the way we think, decide, and live.
What Does Following the Shepherd Look Like Practically?
Following Jesus is not only about major life decisions. It is often revealed in everyday moments.
- When you’re hurt and choose forgiveness.
- When you’re anxious and choose trust.
- When you’re uncertain and choose prayer before reaction.
- When you’re tempted to rush but choose to seek God first.
The Shepherd often guides us through small acts of obedience that shape who we become over time. Confidence in God’s leading is built through practice.
Three Questions to Ask Before Making a Decision
When facing a significant choice, consider:
1. Does It Align with Scripture?
God never contradicts His Word. If a decision conflicts with biblical truth, clarity becomes much simpler.
2. Does It Produce Peace?
Peace does not mean the absence of challenge. But God’s leading is often marked by a steady confidence rather than panic and urgency.
3. Have I Invited Wise Counsel?
God often confirms direction through mature believers who can offer wisdom, perspective, and accountability. Discernment is rarely about guessing. It is about learning to filter wisely.
A Personal Reflection
Take a moment and ask yourself:
- What voice influences my decisions most often?
- Do I respond from fear or from faith?
- When was the last time I intentionally created space to listen to God?
- Am I following Jesus—or simply reacting to life?
- What distractions make it difficult for me to hear His voice?
